About Attawan
Founded by Darlene Daniels, Attawan Designs is based in the heart of Treaty One territory, also known as Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
As an Indigenous owned business, sustainability and land stewardship are traditional practices that Attawan strives for. We work hard within the design process to ensure that every part of the materials we source gets used. Keeping our heritage alive is a sacred responsibility.
A band member from Garden Hill Anisininew Nation, Darlene lives a traditional lifestyle of her people. She learned her craft from her grandmothers which she passes on to youth. She is a Jingle Dress dancer, drummer and singer. She is also an award winning beadwork, quill worker, painter and clothing designer.
Darlene has collaborated with Tammy Beauvais Designs on the Thunderbird Sky collection. Darlene has also lended her skills to the costume departments on television series Acting Good (CTV Comedy + APTN Season 1,2, +3), Don’t Even (Crave + APTN), and Little Bird (Crave TV). Her designs can also be seen on SkyMed (CBC, Paramount +).
When not creating, Darlene enjoys running wild with her rez dog, Dog Katy Perry.

Testimonials
“Working with Darlene Daniels to make the regalia for Little Bird was one of the highlights of my time in Winnipeg. Her lived experiences and knowledge regarding regalia and beadwork ensured what was on screen was authentic to the time and story we were portraying. Her attention to detail and craftsmanship were exemplary and her work is a fine example of living Indigenous art.”
“Darlene’s creation for me is far beyond a stunning wedding dress; it embodies a captivating masterpiece that seamlessly intertwines ancestral wisdom and woodland style artwork with the eseence of our ceremony. Her remarkable craftsmanship harmonizes contemporary design with profound teachings, cherished traditions, and deep connections.”
“One of the many aspect of Darlene’s work that is so unique and impressive, is her ability to bring a contemporary feel to generations of traditional technique. For the television series Don’t Even, we commissioned multiple pieces of Darlene’s work. The final products presented were even more than anticipated.Darlene’s rich background in tailoring, sewing and beadwork speak for themselves. The added details, choice of colours, and story behind each piece shines through. What takes it to the next level is the heart that she puts into it. Thank you for all that you do, Darlene!”
“I had the pleasure of working with Darlene on the series Acting Good, Season 1, 2, and 3. Darlene was absolutely integral to the costume team with her knowledge of traditional dress as well as her abilities to execute such.
Darlene is talented and creative in her craft. I hope to work beside her in upcoming productions.”
FAQs

Darlene can teach anyone how to sew! Having basic skills helps, but is not necessary. She has taught people of all ages and skill levels to sew, design and plan out their work. Workshops fees and timelines may reflect the time needed to accommodate skill levels.
Making regalia is medicine and ceremony as much as it is art, and as such it cannot be rushed. While we do strive to complete all orders in a timely fashion, some things just take longer than others. The time frame for an order is also based on the complexity and size of the project. More information can be provided through a consultation.
Attawan is experienced in working with all sizes for men, women, and children. We have an excellent understanding of Indigenous body types and how to tailor for them.
All orders begin with a consultation! Email us or fill out the contact form, and we will get in touch with you.

Search the Landfills
“Our camp is peaceful and driven solely to recover the remains of our loved ones. As days progressed, thing swere made clear to us. Initially, our anger at the report that the Winnipeg Police would not search for our loved ones was overbearing. The police said it was not feasible to conduct a search. This news created a question, and the answer was that our Indigenous sisters were not important enough. This lack of police effort led to the initiation of Camp Morgan.
First Nations Indigenous Warriors and the Harris family have been at the front lines each day, fighting every level of government and the Winnipeg Police to conduct the search.”
Attawan is selling t-shirts to support Camp Morgan at the Brady Landfill. They have been on the land for 230 days. Camp Morgan needs support of firewood, food, camp supplies, and clothing. Please consider buying a Search the Landfill t-shirt for $25.00. After expenses, the remainder of the money goes to the support of Camp Morgan. To support Camp Morgan, buy a t-shirt, or go on-site to bring supplies or volunteer your time. Orders can be placed on the website.
